The excitement of going to a music festival is second to none, and planning for the best ever weekend is part of the fun. SillyJokes has a range of festival fancy dress ideas and other accessories too.

Get all your essentials before you go. Sorting out your wellies and your sun cream is a given but you could also think about items like glow sticks, balloons, flags and bunting to make your camping area distinctive. You'll be paying a premium if you pick them up at the venue.

Lots of music festivals have a fancy dress day or a fancy dress parade and you'll usually get some notification of what the theme is in advance but even if you don't know it's worth taking a few accessories along like a feather boa, some stockings, a soft hat which will pack flat such as a See You Jimmy, or an Australian Cork hat and never forget a wig or two.

Sometimes you think dressing up isn't for you but at around 6 o'clock when everyone else emerges from their festy tents in weird and wonderful costumes, you know you'll find yourself desperate to join in.

• Bearded Theory 2012 Friday 18th May until Sunday 20th May 2012, Kedleson Hall, Derbyshire means anything with a beard is go and they are again looking for a world record attempt, so don't forget your beards
• The Strawberry Fair in Cambridge Sat 2nd June 2012 Expect a Fancy Dress pageant to round off a day of great music and events
• Charlbury Riverside Festival Sat 16th - Sun 16th June 2012 theme to be announced
• Blissfields Festival 2012 29th June - 1st July 2012 has a sports day, school disco but no strict dress code as such
• Winterwell '12 Friday 29th June- Sunday 1st July 2012 at a secret Gloucestershire location has a fancy dress theme each year, if you can get a ticket to this secret event.
• Haselstock Friday 29th June- Sunday 1st July 2012 at Haselbech, Northants Their fancy dress theme is The Enchanted Forest and for children there will be a Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
• Beatherder Festival Friday 29th June- Sunday 1st July 2012 at Gisburn, Lancashire No fancy dress themes announced yet (Jan 2012)
• Bloc Friday 6 and 7th July 2012, location unknown but NOT Butlins Minehead UK with a theme yet to be announced
• Larmer Tree Festival 11th-15th July 2012 Wiltshire/Dorest border. This long festival has a good tradition of fancy dress nights. No fancy dress theme announced yet (Jan 2012).
• 2000trees Festival 12th-14th July 2012 Withington, Gloucestershire. No theme annouced as yet but always fancy dress (Jan 2012)
• The Rock and Bike Fest 2012 12th-14th July 2012 Stanford Hall Estate, Loughborough. Intriguing competitions for best fancy dress and best tattoo!
• Secret Garden Party Thursday 19st to Sunday 22th July 2012. Mill Hill Field, Abbots Ripon, Huntingdon, UK This event is more like a party than a festival and the children are encouraged to dress up. The event overall theme is Standing on Ceremony which celebrates the events that bind us together like rituals, carnivals, initiations and anniversarys.
• The Wickerman Festival 2012 Friday 20th July until Saturday 221st July 2012 nr. Kirkcudbright, Galloway, Scotland, Beautiful location in Scotland. Theme to be announced.
• Camp Bestival Friday 26th July until Sunday 29 July 2012, Lulworth Castle Fancy Dress Theme is 'Silly Olympics'
• Nozstock '12 Friday 27 July until Sunday 29 July 2012, Bromyard, Herefordshire Fancy Dress Theme is Myths & Legends so crack open your medieval, Roman and Greek etc
• Y-Not Festival '12 Aug 3th - Aug 5th 2012, Pikehall, Matlock, Derbyshire Fancy dress theme popular but yet to be announced
• Farmer Phil's '12 Aug 10th - Aug 12th 2012, Ratlinghope, Shropshire There is a fancy dress party on the Saturday night and the theme is left open and up to you. Children a have fancy dress parade on the Sunday
• Beautiful Days Friday 17th - Sunday 19st August 2012, Escot Park, Ottery St Mary Devon is a festival with a community feel and a fancy dress element and this year's theme is yet to be announced
• Boomtown Fair '12 Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th August 12 - Matterley Estate, nr Winchester always encourages outrageous fancy dress - theme yet to be announced if any
• Green Man Festival '12 Thursday 17th - Sunday 19th August 12 - Glanusk Park, Usk Valley. Green Man are having a Fancy Dress fantasy world with professional costume makers, face painters and photographers for you to emmerse yourself in your alter ego
• 80's Rewind Festival '12 Thursday 17th - Sunday 19th August 12 - Temple Island Meadows, nr Henley On Thames is a celebration of 80s music and artists so it would be criminal not to dress up in theme
• Shambala Festival '12 Thursday 23th - Sunday 26th August 12 - a secret location in the Midlands always has an outrageous fancy dress parade - theme yet to be announced - as of Jan 2012
• Bestival 2012 The Year of the Fantastic Thursday 6 September until Sunday 9 September 2012, Isle of Wight, possibly the world's biggest fancy dress party - the 2012 theme is yet to be announced at the time of writing Jan 2012
